On June 2, 1953, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey, following the tradition of coronations being held there for the past 900 years. However, she made history because hers was the first to be televised.
A staggering 27 million people in the UK watched the event, with countless more tuning in from all corners of the world. Of course, as the firstborn child, Prince Charles had the unique privilege of being present at his mother’s coronation as the Sovereign.
