In 1958, when Prince Charles was only nine, Queen Elizabeth revealed her plans to appoint him as the Prince of Wales. Many years later, to familiarize himself with Wales, he had to leave his studies at Cambridge University temporarily.
He attended Aberystwyth University for a term where he received tutoring on Welsh culture, language, and other related matters. As a result of this experience, he was able to give speeches in Welsh at the university, and following his investiture in 1969, he embarked on a tour of Wales.
