Kathy Bates – Started At Age 42

Who doesn’t love Kathy Bates? She was 42 when she breathed life into the homicidal nurse Annie Wilkes. That notable role in “Misery” earned her an Academy Award, eventually making her a household name. Oddly enough, her mother thought she was playing herself in that 1990 movie.

While a struggling actor, Kathy was also a singing waitress. Knowing this, she truly deserved to be the first woman to bag an Oscar for best actress in a horror/thriller.
