The Heartbreak of 2008
As the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics neared, Charlene Wittstock’s primary focus was on her athletic training. Despite being at the center of media attention for her relationship with Prince Albert, she remained committed to her swimming career.
Unfortunately, injuries to her shoulder and ankle severely impacted her performance, preventing her from qualifying for what was supposed to be her final competitive event. Charlene later acknowledged that she was unprepared for the emotional toll of retiring from swimming sooner than she’d planned.
