It Wasn’t All Fun and Games
Woodstock’s massive attendance, exceeding 500,000, had a surprisingly low number of fatal incidents, with only three people losing their lives. Two succumbed to overdoses, highlighting the era’s experimentation with illicit substances. A deplorable incident involved a 17-year-old tragically losing his life when a tractor unknowingly ran over him while sleeping in a sleeping bag.
Another notable challenge the festival faced was the scarcity of toilets. The unexpected turnout led to insufficient preparation; only 600 bathrooms were available, translating to approximately one toilet for every 650 attendees!
