Martin Scorcese’s Woodstock Story
Artie Kornfeld, the visionary behind Woodstock, conceptualized a partnership with Warner Bros Studios to film a Woodstock documentary. This decision coincided with the early career of legendary Hollywood director Martin Scorsese, fresh from NYU film school, who contributed as an editor for the film.
Across three days, an astounding 120 miles of footage was captured, with Martin and his team condensing it into a three-hour documentary. The resulting film achieved critical acclaim, securing an Academy Award and substantial profits. However, others largely reaped financial gains, leaving Martin and the filmmaking team with minimal reward.
