MUCUS IS PART OF OUR DAILY DIET
A person ingests an average of one to two cups, or more than a liter, of mucus daily. Although this fact may seem unappealing to some, mucus is a natural component of the human body. We typically don’t notice it being swallowed when we’re healthy, but when we’re feeling under the weather, the sticky, jelly-like substance becomes more noticeable.
That’s understandable because mucus acts as a barrier to defend your body from external threats, so when it encounters unusual substances like allergens, it increases mucus production to protect itself.
