HUMAN SKIN MAKES FOR GREAT BOOK COVERS
Literary enthusiasts fascinated with the macabre would love to know about a strange item in Harvard’s Houghton Library. One of their books is covered with human skin. The library confirmed this in a blog post, revealing the results of tests that verified their copy of Arsène Houssaye’s “Des Destinées de L’ame” was indeed bound in human flesh.
The French author gifted the literary work, which translates to “Destinies of the Soul,” to a physician friend during the mid-1880s. He then bound it with skin from a deceased female patient.
