A TOOTH CAN CURE BLINDNESS
It may seem unbelievable, but the Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis (OOKP) or “Tooth in Eye” procedure has helped many individuals regain their vision. This medical procedure involves removing a tooth, growing it in the patient’s cheek for months, and then implanting it in the eye to treat corneal issues or illnesses.
The technique was perfected over four decades by Giancarlo Falcinelli, who refined and improved the procedure pioneered by ophthalmic surgeon Benedetto Strampelli in the ’60s. And that modified process remains the gold standard today.
