Towering Feats and Miniature Marvels
Here’s proof of director Peter Jackson’s quest for authenticity in the “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” films, where practical effects ruled the land (with a few exceptions). Actors of all shapes and sizes donned the cloaks of hobbits, dwarves, and elves, including some not-so-friendly faces.

Pictured here is a painstakingly detailed and meticulously handcrafted model of the city of Minas Tirith, a pivotal location in the third film. For a time when CGI was nowhere near where it is today, Peter’s choice to film real sets and models paid off in the end.
