Dillie, Internet’s Dearest Deer
The story of Dillie the deer, pictured here, was widely shared online and gained a lot of attention. In 2004, Butera adopted the doe into his Canal Fulton house even though she was close to death at the time. Despite some people opposing the domestication of wild animals, Dillie’s story was a success, leading to multiple books being published about her life.
The subject of the book “Dillie the Deer: A True Story of Love, Healing, and Family,” by Melanie Butera, sweet Dillie passed away in April 2022 at 18.
