In April 2014, Woods made the unprecedented decision to forgo the Masters due to a pinched nerve requiring back surgery after enduring months of discomfort. February 2015 witnessed another painful episode as Woods, fresh from a disappointing round at the Phoenix Open, withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open due to a back injury.

The year took a further downturn in September when he missed qualification for the PGA Tour’s FedExCup play-offs, subsequently undergoing microdiscectomy surgery for the second time. He was absent from the remaining 2015 events, including his own cherished Hero World Challenge.
