You’re Mostly Flying on Autopilot
More so than anybody else, your flight’s pilot is crucial to your safety and comfort. Modern airplanes are so sophisticated that they require no pilot. Aircraft are supposed to be computerized and faster than humans, which may be reassuring and alarming given that most crashes are due to human error.
Nonetheless, pilots are responsible for maintaining constant vigilance, correcting or deactivating autopilot at any time—for instance, if the system has a fault or if a manual landing becomes necessary.
