Turning Off Your Cell Phone Isn’t That Necessary
Ask airplane passengers about why they silence their phones; the overwhelming majority would answer to avoid interfering with the plane’s avionics. It’s easy to see why they may believe so, but it isn’t the case any longer.
The FAA relaxed several rules in 2013 to enable passengers to use their phones in Airplane Mode after new research conducted in 2012. Putting our phones into “Airplane Mode” will prevent them from attempting to connect to cellular towers on the ground.
