During an event of horse riding, Prince Charles brought his eldest to the match, as evidenced by this 1990 picture. A giddy boy seemed to be interested in what was happening around him, and this was perhaps his father’s way of introducing the sport to the child.

Prince William did learn how to ride horses, and he and his father even rode together on multiple occasions. In June 2022, the father-son duo rode on horseback during the Queen’s Birthday celebration, famously known as the Trooping the Colour parade.
