Roopkund: The Eerily Haunting Skeleton Lake of the Himalayas
Nestled at an astonishing 16,470 feet above sea level, Roopkund, aptly named Skeleton Lake, resides within the majestic Himalayan mountain range, home to the world’s tallest peaks and some of its most remote lakes. This remarkable lake harbors a dark and enduring mystery—over 300 skeletons discovered near its shores, originating from three distinct periods.

Some scientists propose that a violent hailstorm in the 9th century may have claimed the lives of some of those found beneath the lake’s surface. Yet, this explanation fails to account for the hundreds of other human remains discovered in the shallow waters.
