Kerala’s Eerily Beautiful Red Rains
The southwestern district of Kerala offers stunning beaches characterized by pristine blue seas and unique black sands. However, it’s also gained notoriety for an enduring mystery: the “red rains” have sporadically drenched the region for over two centuries, first documented in 1818.
Numerous theories have attempted to explain this peculiar phenomenon. Some suggested meteor bursts, while others drew upon Hindu beliefs, associating the crimson downpour with the departure of the sinless. However, the Indian government proposed a more grounded explanation, attributing it to airborne spores from a local algae strain, demystifying Kerala’s centuries-old “blood rain” mystery.
