Channapatna’s Unique Temple Honors Lost Canine Companions
In the southern central village of Channapatna, nestled near the revered Kempamma’s temple, a peculiar shrine emerged in 2010, driven by an extraordinary dream. According to legend, the Goddess Kempamma appeared in a villager’s dream, urging the construction of a new temple.
Believe it or not, this temple isn’t dedicated to any deities but to two dogs that mysteriously disappeared from the village. Statues of these beloved canine companions now grace the temple’s precincts. Each year, Channapatna commemorates the lives of these lost dogs with a festival that celebrates their memory.
