Could It Be The Usual Contraction Creaks?
The first thing that came to mind was that, as one of the older houses in Germantown, it was bound to have a few creaks. It’s not uncommon for structures and appliances to creak and knock due to expansion and contraction, especially during winter, when the cold causes wood to expand and contract more dramatically.
It’s not clear when these houses were built, but many of the other homes in the neighborhood had been renovated. One idea was that perhaps some maintenance renovations could solve the noise. The only problem was, the sound was a little more pronounced than the usual cracks and creaks.
