Ernie Barnes Was Effective In Portraying The Climate He Was In
The late Ernie Barnes was perhaps equally renowned for being a painter and athlete. He was passionate about fighting against societal discrimination, even from a young age. While at North Carolina College, he took up art on an athletic scholarship.
After hanging his boots, Barnes focused on art, and critics weren’t blind to his talent. The footballer was reportedly the “most expressive painter of sports since George Bellows.” Barnes credited his sculptor instructor Ed Wilson for pursuing this passion.
