VAMPIRE BUTTERFLIES
Butterflies are often known for their beauty and grace, but did you know that some species of butterflies also drink blood? This behavior has been observed in butterflies of the genus Calyptra, deemed vampire moths. These butterflies feed on the blood of mammals, including humans, by using their proboscis to pierce the skin and extract blood.
Doing so is thought to provide the butterflies with essential nutrients, such as iron, that are not found in their usual diet of nectar. But these butterflies are rare.
