Not many fans know that Jim Henson, the puppet master extraordinaire, helped bring the beloved Bert and Ernie to life on “Sesame Street.” Don Sahlin constructed Bert and Ernie from a straightforward sketch made by Jim.

At first, Henson was Bert, and Oz was Ernie, but after just one day of rehearsals, the duo shifted roles. The original intent was to demonstrate that two people can have beautiful friendships despite having radically dissimilar personalities.
