The Ingenious Tricks of Making a Physical City
In the thrilling escapades of “Escape From New York” (1981), a classic flick worth a watch, an amusing scene unfolds where the cops scrutinize a digital city map. However, here’s the twist: back in the day, CGI technology hadn’t caught up, forcing the resourceful filmmakers to fashion a physical model instead.

The props department used reflective tape to create a miniature model of the city we can see here. And filming took place under black light using a wireframe CG for the final effect.
